SUPER MASS PUBLIC SHOOTINGS:

JustOnePage.org v.07242022

Americans DO NOT want anyone to have a weapon that can kill a high number of people in a short period of time unless it is certain that person will never use it to kill people.

Americans DO NOT want SUPER MASS PUBLIC SHOOTINGS (defined as 10 killed) nor MASS SHOOTINGS (defined as 4 killed or wounded) in normally safe areas such as schools, Churches, Concerts, shopping areas.  They want ZERO of these shootings and are inclined to pass any law or restriction to stop them.

Americans DO NOT care what the stats say.   Even if these Shootings are less than .001% of all gun deaths at 40 people a year, comparing it to the 40,000 gun deaths is meaningless.

Americans want ZERO SUPER MASS PUBLIC SHOOTINGS!   They also do not want to live in a world where EVERY public area or gathering is in a high security bubble with TSA type screenings.

IN GENERAL:

Most guns deaths are by Handgun and of those most are suicides.

Over half of mass shootings (4 dead or injured) by handguns.

Only about 20% have more than 2 deaths.

Over half of mass shootings are in homes with a low number of victims (let’s call that “PRIVATE MASS SHOOTINGS” where people often know each other).

About half don’t have any deaths, just wounded.

A number of these are gang on gang shootings where victims are already in a generally dangerous environment many who are contributing or aware of the constant danger.

What is left over is (About 5% of more than 4 deaths and 1% over 10 deaths) are what I will call:

“SUPER MASS PUBLIC SHOOTINGS” that are almost all done with assault style weapons.

This includes a few with handguns (aka pistols) that are enhanced to become an AR style rifle often with shorter barrels.

With Assault Rifles, death when shot is 6 times higher due to high velocity rounds than when shot by pistols.

Even though the number can be less than 100 deaths per year (statistically SUPER small – less than a tenth of a percent),

4 “SUPER MASS PUBLIC SHOOTINGS” of 25 innocent people dead in each shooting would be totally unacceptable.

SO THE QUESTION IS: HOW DO WE STOP IT?

In studying the 30 Super Mass Public Shootings, the main idea that comes out is that there is massive failure of the ability to catch the main motivation of the shooters:  Mental Problems.  These problems go unreported, or reports are not transferred between authorities, or are not acted on.   There is very little help anymore for mental problems.

Misogyny, Paranoia, and Hate are the main drivers. Yet since Reagan, mental hospitals were closed and support and focus on this was greatly reduced.  Conservatives are not going to reverse that or add any more gun laws.  Trump, Fox news and MAGA media are pushing this narrative!

We need tighter mental and threat data reporting. Conservatives are against that as well when it comes to using it to take away guns from unstable people.  Conservatives mention things like creating secure bubbles that certainly will make America look like some third world country behind walls, bars and doors to all public spaces.  No more picket fences.

We need sensible laws that:

Close the private and gun show transfer loopholes.

We need to raise the national age of buying, owning, possessing without owner present of all guns to 21.

Ban Pistols with short barrels and braces.

These are things that may have stopped many of general mass shootings.

Ban non-serialized 80% “ghost gun” DYI kits, and

Increase funding for gun death research.

Republicans say that they want to enforce existing laws, but will not pass any laws that force this for D.A.s

In short, Republicans do not think there is anything we can do, and are unwilling to pass anything that they claim might help.   Americans will get tiered of this inaction.
